New Irving H-E-B Construction is Underway: Here is the Location

Construction has started for a new H-E-B supermarket in North Irving, located at the northwest corner of Olympus Boulevard and LBJ Freeway (Interstate 635). The store is rising in front of the former Fry’s Electronics building, which has sat vacant since the chain’s closure. As of February 2025, aerial images show the lot cleared and early site preparation underway.

The Irving H-E-B will be part of a growing cluster of national retailers. To the west is The Home Depot, and just east of the site are Walmart and Sam’s Club. The new store will be easily accessible from Northwest Dallas, Farmers Branch, and Carrollton thanks to its frontage along LBJ Freeway. Construction is expected to be completed by mid-2026, according to recent project filings.

From Farmland to Retail Hub: A Look Back at the Site

Aerial photos from the 1950s show that this part of Irving was once open farmland. Interstate 635 was constructed in the 1970s, cutting through the area and setting the stage for future development. It wasn’t until the early 2000s that major retail activity began here. The Home Depot was built in 2001, followed by Fry’s Electronics in 2002.

By 2025, the surrounding area has filled in with big-box stores, dense housing, and commercial buildings, with the new H-E-B set to fill a key gap along the corridor. The cleared lot marks the final phase in this stretch’s transformation from undeveloped land to a major suburban retail destination.
