Fitchburg man convicted for illegal firearm possession as felon after high-speed chase

MADISON, Wis. — A jury convicted a Fitchburg man for illegally possessing a firearm as a felon after hiding in a garden shed in August 2024.

Malcolm Whiteside, 30, led police on a high-speed chase on a highway in Madison when he collided into a semi-truck. The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured, as reported by our Green Bay CBS affiliate . He ran away to a nearby parking lot, where a police officer found him hiding inside a garden shed.

While Whiteside ran away, officers at the scene search his vehicle and found a loaded firearm underneath the driver’s floor mat. Later, an analyst from the Wisconsin State Crime Lab found Whiteside’s DNA on multiple locations on the firearm…
