UCF Makes Decision on Tennessee QB Nico Iamaleava in Transfer Portal

Star quarterback Nico Iamaleava sent shockwaves through the college football world last week with reports of a potential holdout amid a push for a more lucrative NIL package with the Tennessee Volunteers. Head coach Josh Heupel decided to part ways with his starting quarterback after the brief holdout, and now Iamaleava is vetting suitors for his services via the transfer portal.

Iamaleava may have overestimated his market in the transfer portal with several teams bowing out of the race to land the quarterback. Perhaps no one knows more about the position and how it has evolved through the 21st century than former Nebraska Cornhuskers quarterback Scott Frost who won a national title with the program in 1997.

Now in his second stint as UCF Knights head coach, Frost has an interesting link to Iamaleava on his staff: McKenzie Milton, the former 2017 AAC and Peach Bowl champion, is now the quarterbacks coach at his alma mater in Orlando, Fla.

Milton has a relationship with Iamaleava as he worked with the quarterback as an offensive analyst for the Volunteers. UCF also faces uncertainty at quarterback amid an ongoing competition…
