10th Annual Open Streets Lancaster scheduled for May

The Lancaster Recreation Commission (Lancaster Rec) announced its 10th Annual Open Streets Lancaster to take place on Saturday, May 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. where streets will become a car-free zone. North and South Water Streets will be closed, starting at Chestnut Street and ending at Conestoga Street. Chestnut and Conestoga Streets will be open to traffic, with crossing guards present to direct pedestrians.

“Open Streets events have been a powerful way for cities to promote safer and greater access to physical activity,” said Director of Special Programs at Lancaster Rec, Jack Bingeman. “This event not only provides a fun and active space but also connects families with local organizations that support physical, mental and social wellbeing over a one-mile route.”

Attendees can expect many community vendors, local nonprofits, food trucks and live music for the Open Streets event as well as other engaging experiences. Last year’s activities included gymnastics instruction, skateboarding and bike repair stations…
