“Go big or go home,” Rickenbacker / Bear Cut process gets rolling

Key Biscayne residents will soon learn of an ambitious plan to restructure the famed, but often congested, Rickenbacker Causeway.

“Go big or go home” is the way Miami-Dade County Commissioner Raquel Regalado described the proposal, which will be unveiled at a May 6 public meeting.

“I think we need a 50-year solution, not a 10-year, 15-year or 20-year solution,” she said at last week’s Village Council meeting. “What we need to do is completely reimagine the Rickenbacker and redesign the Rickenbacker. In its current state, it’s always going to be problematic.”

Regalado said the current ideas the county has — in her opinion — are just a reshuffling of many of the same problems and may offer only temporary solutions before the population increases. She also asked Council members to think out of the box…
