Son sentenced in attack on 81-year-old mother in The Villages

A son has been sentenced in an attack on his 81-year-old mother who asked him to turn down his music.

Michael Christopher Holland, 56, has been placed on 18 months of probation after pleading no contest this week in Sumter County Court to charges of battery on a person over the age of 65 and resisting arrest.

Holland was in the bedroom of the home he shares with his mother in Villa Berea in the Village of Polo Ridge shortly before midnight Feb. 6 when she entered his bedroom and asked him to turn down the loud music, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

The request apparently enraged Holland, who “grabbed her arms and started shaking her, telling her to get out of his room,” the report said. She later told deputies that her son had been drinking vodka prior to the attack…
