Attorney General sends warnings to med spas for weight-loss drugs

OHIO — Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost sent warnings to several medical spas across the state to stop making false or misleading claims about their weight-loss drugs.

Yost sent letters to 14 medical spas, who are advertising custom-made variations of semaglutide and/or tirzepatide, which are the active ingredients in medications like Ozempic®, Wegovy®, Zepbound® and Mounjaro®. The businesses were sent warnings for incorrectly suggesting that the medications are approved by the Food & Drug Administration, and/or just as safe and effective as the name-brand medications.

“People deserve clear and accurate information about the medications they’re putting in their bodies,” Yost said. “We’re reminding businesses that being truthful isn’t just a good business practice — it’s the law.”…
