19-year-old high school senior dies after being shot Tuesday night in Morgan Park

CHICAGO — A high school senior who was preparing for prom and graduation died after being shot Tuesday night in Morgan Park on the city’s South Side, leaving behind grieving classmates and a father now hoping for justice.

Treyvon Winfield, a 19-year-old soon-to-be graduate of Morgan Park High School, was by his car just after 8 p.m. Tuesday in the 1000 block of West 115th Street when an unknown male offender walked up to him and fired, hitting Winfield multiple times, according to police.

Police say officers arriving to a call of a person shot found Winfield with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Roseland Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say the suspect fled in an unknown direction after shooting Winfield, and nobody is yet in custody. Police were gathering evidence at the scene well into Tuesday night but have not yet released any description of a suspect.
