Lucas Riley lifts Iowa City High boys soccer past Iowa City Liberty in crosstown game

With about 15 minutes left in the first half, the white and red patterned soccer ball ricocheted off the hands of the Iowa City Liberty goalkeeper before it settled at the feet of Iowa City High’s Lucas Riley.

The lane was open, and Riley – who was stationed about 10 yards away from the goal – had the green light to shoot. The senior settled his feet with every intention to uncork a shot toward the net.

Make it, and the Little Hawks would strike first. Miss, and the previously unbeaten Liberty team could run the length of the pitch and shift the tide in its favor in enemy territory…
