Staffing shortage forces Army Corps to scale back operations at federal recreation areas

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – Those planning to visit any federal recreation areas around the region this summer can expect some changes.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Omaha District said in a press release Wednesday that they’re working with less staff and resources, forcing them to scale back. Starting May 1, they will reduce hours at the Lewis and Clark Visitors Center in Gavins Point, Neb.

This summer, crews will only clean bathrooms three days a week, instead of daily, and less safety patrols will be performed on peak weekends and holidays due to staffing shortages…
