‘Hour by hour’: Family stays by teen’s side after wrong-way crash

Blayke Mostad, a 17-year-old from Milaca, remains in critical condition at Hennepin County Medical Center following a wrong-way driver crash April 9 in central Minnesota.

According to the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office, Mostad was driving a GMC Sierra pickup around 9 o’clock that night — his 15-year-old brother Braxton Mostad and a 19-year-old from Big Lake were passengers in the truck — when a 70-year-old St. Cloud man driving a Ford Flex the wrong way on westbound Hwy. 10 allegedly entered the eastbound lanes at 70th Ave., causing Mostad to T-bone the Ford Flex.

A responding Minnesota state trooper in a Dodge Charger was then “unable to avoid a collision” with the wreckage,” the sheriff’s office said. It’s possible that some of the occupants of the original crash were outside their vehicles when the trooper crashed.

While the investigation is ongoing, four of the five people injured, including the trooper, have been released from hospital care…
