Federal jury in Shreveport convicts men of drug trafficking charges

SHREVEPORT, La. ( KTAL/KMSS ) — Two men have been found guilty on drug trafficking charges.

Jaworski Batton, 41, and Cody Gibson, 40, both from Heflin, Louisiana, were found guilty by a federal jury in Shreveport. U.S. Attorney Alexander Van Hook’s Office reported that the two men conspired with their co-defendant, Demetric Carey, to distribute methamphetamine.

The defendants were suspected of drug trafficking in the Webster Parish area, which led to an investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). Agents obtained a court order to monitor Carey’s cell phone and gather information on his communication with Batton. Upon their investigation, they were able to surveil Batton at a retail store in Bossier City while he was headed to pick up suspected narcotics. Following this exchange, state police conducted a traffic stop of Batton’s vehicle and discovered marijuana and methamphetamine.

According to Hook’s office, other intercepted communications occurred for several months between these two defendants, where Carey sold one of the suspects enough methamphetamine to be distributed…
