Residents and visitors of Sandy Springs have a new reason to enjoy the great outdoors. The city announced its latest addition to the local greenway with the opening of the Springway Trail. The trail officially opens on Friday, May 2 at 1:00 p.m., marked by a ribbon cutting ceremony. Sandy Springs looks to fully integrate the engaging 1.88-mile trail segment into the community’s recreational life.
The Springway Trail, serving as the first completed segment from the city’s Trail Master Plan, ambitiously aims to seamlessly connect Morgan Falls Overlook Park to Roswell Road at Cimarron Parkway. Trail-goers can expect to literally traverse a scenic landscape, featuring an extensive boardwalk across Orkin Lake, and to be surrounded by new landscaping efforts. The project incorporates a wide-ranging suite of amenities, including pedestrian bridges and roadway realignments, which are just a part of the $8.5 million infrastructure investment made by the city and its partners.
According to the official City of Sandy Springs news release, the project saw collaboration between the city, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Program, the PATH Foundation, and the Sandy Springs Conservancy.
