El Paso police reveal street racing led to deadly crash that killed Juarez woman

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Police documents reveal that the car that hit and killed a 21-year-old Juarez woman was allegedly street racing before it lost control and veered into the sidewalk.

According to the El Paso Police Department, at around 10:47 p.m. on Monday, Diana Chagah Garcia and two others, a 19-year-old man and a 15-year-old girl– all three from Ciudad Juarez– were hit by a 2015 Audi S3 while they were on the sidewalk at the 1400 block of Mesa Street, near the University of Texas at El Paso.

EPPD first reported that the Audi had lost control and veered into the sidewalk, hitting the three pedestrians, after it had crashed into another car while changing lanes. However, newly obtained police documents now paint a different picture, claiming that the Audi was racing another car before the deadly crash happened.

According to the new report, the driver of the Audi, a 21-year-old from Socorro, told officers he was racing a black Sentra down Mesa Street when the Sentra reportedly hit his car, sending him to the sidewalk…
