Lubbock, Texas has a much more interesting history than you might think.
Lubbock’s History Of Mayors
Lubbock, Texas has had some legendary, controversial, and very peculiar mayors. I’ve been able to meet with many of them, and let me say at least one of them was absolutely bat-sh!t crazy (I’ll let you figure out which one). One of the others was a good ol’ boy type and several of the others were developer types, who in my personal opinion weren’t here to serve anything other than their own interests. It’s been a parade of characters for sure.

Lubbock’s First And Most Mayors
Lubbock’s first mayor, Frank E. Wheelock, took the office in 1909. So, I’ll let the cat out of the bag, did you know he was a Democrat? Of course, anyone who knows any political history will tell you that Democrats and Republican’s all stand for different things than they used to. Frank was actually one of 25 Democrats to serve as Lubbock mayor. To date, Lubbock has only had 13 Republican mayors.
Lubbock Republicans On A Winning Streak
Of course, since 2002 all of the mayors have been Republican. That’s 23 year run for the party in the Hub City. It certainly gives one pause, because if you do or don’t like what happens in the Hub City, it’s all on this one group. Sure, different personalities have sat in the big chair, but all of the party priorities have had plenty of time to be put in place. 23 years is a pretty good run, it’s up to you if you’re happy with it.
