A St. Louis man pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court to a firearms charge after police witnessed him assaulting a woman last year.
Lee M. Shields, 46, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Shields admitted that on Sept. 17, 2023, officers with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department saw him strike a woman in the head. The woman fell to the ground and was bleeding from her mouth and nose.
After the assault, Shields entered a Jeep. Officers approached him and found a pistol magazine in his pocket and a Glock 23 handgun inside the vehicle. The victim told police she was unsure if she had been struck by Shields’ fist or by an object. One officer reported seeing an object in Shields’ hand during the assault.
