Springfield, MO – A broad Flood Watch has been issued for southern Missouri and portions of southeast Kansas, with several rounds of rainfall expected to bring 2 to 4 inches through Sunday evening, coinciding with Easter.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, the Flood Watch begins Friday evening and continues through Sunday night. Heavy showers and thunderstorms will repeatedly impact areas from Springfield to Joplin, with localized totals potentially reaching 6 inches, especially along and just north of the Interstate 44 corridor.
Forecasters warn that excessive runoff could cause rivers, creeks, and low-lying areas to flood. Motorists are urged to avoid low-water crossings, particularly at night when flood hazards are harder to detect.
