An elderly resident of Apache Junction fell victim to a scam, resulting in the loss of $82,000. The Apache Junction Police Department (AJPD) reported the case on March 4, detailing how the 86-year-old was deceived through an email about a non-existent charge and enticed into providing remote access to her computer.
After gaining control, the individual falsely claimed that the victim had received an over-refund and persuaded her to withdraw large amounts of cash to return the alleged excess.
