Crews respond to debris pile fire at Mid-Carolina Steel & Recycling

Third shift crews with the Columbia-Richland Fire Department responded to the scene of debris pile fire at Mid-Carolina Steel & Recycling yesterday evening.

According to the Columbia-Richland Fire Department, Brush Truck 18 arrived on the scene at 7425 Fairfield Rd. shortly before 5:30 p.m. to find a large pile of scrap metal behind the building on fire. Due to the size of the fire and the threat of it spreading to other structures on the premises more resources were added to the call.

The bulk of the fire was extinguished after several hours, but the firefighters continued to flow water onto the pile overnight…
