Mobile SWAT officer fired 4 shots at teenager who was raising hands, lawsuit alleges

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – A family suing the city of Mobile over a fatal SWAT raid filed an amended complaint in federal court Thursday, naming the officers involved in the incident.

The predawn raid in November 2023 resulted in the death of 16-year-old Randall Adjessom in his home on Sheringham Drive, of off Cottage Hill Road. Police at the time said they were looking for Adjessom’s older brother and that the teenager pointed a gun at officers.

The city has denied any wrongdoing.

The amended complaint alleges that the Mobile Police Department SWAT Team entered the home on a “no-knock” warrant. The suit states Randall Adjessom did not know the intruders were police officers and that when he realized they were officers, put his hands in the air and took a step backward towards his bedroom…
