PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — While a bill was recently introduced to incentivize recycling in Rhode Island, some are raising concerns about the potential impact on consumers’ wallets.
Rep. Carol Hagan McEntee said Rhode Island recycles at a rate of 26%, placing it in the middle of the pack among all 50 states.
To boost that number, McEntee introduced a so-called “bottle bill” that would allow buyers to receive a refund on a deposit after returning empty recyclable containers.
