Syracuse Fire Department responds to vacant house fire on north side, home saved

SYRACUSE, N.Y — The Syracuse Fire Department responded to a vacant house fire on the north side of Syracuse on Thursday, April 17.

According to a department release, at 4:53 p.m., Syracuse Firefighters were alerted by the Onondaga County 911 Center to a reported structure fire in the vicinity of John Street and Spring Street. Firefighters from Station 2, on Lodi Street, arrived at the scene in four minutes and observed a large amount of smoke from the rear of 308 John Street, a two-and-a-half-story wood frame structure. Most of the home was boarded up.

The fire was contained to the rear porch. Searches of the building were completed, there was no one inside. The fire was declared out after approximately 12 minutes…
