Ada County’s zoning code rewrite is getting a switch-up after residents who felt shut out asked for more opportunities for feedback.
In mid-January, Ada County’s Planning & Zoning Commission was poised to make a recommendation on the county’s new zoning code to the Ada County Commissioners, but then the project was put on hold. Residents came to the January 16 public hearing on the code calling for changes allowing multi-family housing in commercial areas, stricter rules for solar farms and criticized the county’s rollout of the final code proposal that they said didn’t give residents enough time to learn about the changes or provide any feedback.
The county’s zoning code rewrite has been in development since 2020, but the bulk of the public outreach and input happened years ago. The county was largely silent on the proposal as it went through legal review until a new website about the proposal launched in early 2025…
