Storm Center PM Update: Thunderstorm and Snow Chances

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — There has been a variety of weather across KELOLAND today with precipitation and temperatures. Highs ranged from the 80s in the Spencer area to the 40s in western South Dakota. With the low pressure system moving through, daytime heating, and moisture being brought in with southerly winds, it is setting the stage for thunderstorm development.

A risk for severe weather continues going into the late afternoon and evening hours. Areas from Luverne down to Vermillion are in a slight risk with the greatest threat being large hail. As thunderstorms form along the cold front, they will move eastward going into the overnight hours.

While there is a severe weather threat, winter-like weather is still hanging around KELOLAND. The Black Hills are in a Winter Weather Advisory through tomorrow morning and snow totals will range from three to six inches.

Breezy winds from today will continue into the overnight hours as well, with winds becoming northerly in Sioux Falls behind the front. Cloud cover will linger with lows staying around seasonable for this time of year East River and becoming cooler to the west.

Below average highs will return for tomorrow across KELOLAND in the 40s and 50s and breezy conditions.

Heading into Saturday, the wind will calm down with sunshine returning. By the start of the week, another low pressure system arrives to the Northern Plains and will bring a slight chance for rain showers. Temperatures going into the rest of the week will climb back to above average…
