Indiana Gov. Mike Braun ‘s recent flurry of new executive orders aimed at reforming food stamp benefits mostly attracted headlines for his plan to ban people from using their SNAP benefits to purchase soda and candy .
But experts who study SNAP said some of Braun’s executive orders that are getting less attention – including a plan to “overhaul” work requirements for the program and tightening eligibility in an attempt to cut down on waste, fraud and abuse – are likely to have a bigger impact on Hoosiers and could result in some Indiana residents losing their benefits.
It also could result in added administrative costs, rather than a cost-savings for the state…
