First Alert Forecast: Highs near 80 today! Rain chances for the holiday weekend

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) – A very warm day on tap today with highs near, if not above, 80 degrees. Wind gusts between 30 to 40 mph will be the main story this afternoon, as conditions remain dry and cloudy at times. Those gusts will blow warm across 21Country giving us a run at the warmest day so far this year and the first 80 degree day of the year.

Most of the rain and thunderstorm chances will hold off until the last few hours of the day at the earliest, most will be around or past midnight tonight. Our risk for severe weather has been lowered to a Level 1 of 5 (Marginal Risk) by the Storm Prediction Center. This goes in line with our thinking throughout the week, there is a non-zero chance for severe weather, but most areas can expect a few gusty showers and storms…
