Possible MSCS board punishment coming for Towanna Murphy after deportation comments

SHELBY COUNTY, Tenn. — The family of the woman whom MSCS board member Towanna Murphy threatened with deportation last week is speaking out as the school board addresses Murphy’s actions.

On the week of April 8, Andrea Avalos, a US citizen and 2023 MSCS graduate, sent Murphy a message telling her to resign. She called her an embarrassment and insulted her appearance.

A screenshot of the message exchange shows Murphy then saying, “Baby be quiet before I have you deported.”…
