A new Texas law has banned a state’s official flag from lesson plans.
Looks like a social studies program at Lamar CISD is no longer acceptable with the state of Texas’ new policy when it comes to sexual material in the classroom. You maybe thinking, what does social studies have to do with sexual material in a classroom. Well students will now be skipping over one state when it comes to learning about different flags in America.
Above you can see the official state flag of Virginia. This flag and all fifty state flags were a part of program used on the online tool for many Texas elementary students called ‘Pebble Go’. According to their website, students will ‘travel through all U.S. states and territories to explore their geography, history, government, landmarks, and symbols.’
The problem is that the Virginia state flag depicts a woman signifying virtue standing over a defeated king. “Sic semper tyrannis” is the motto underneath that translates to ‘Thus always to tyrants’. Virginia was one of the thirteen original colonies and their flag is meant to represent they will never allow a tyrannical government again. The woman depicted as Virtue has an exposed breast and that is why the State of Texas will not allow elementary students to learn about the state flag anymore.
