EUGENE, Ore. – If you’re planning to hit the Eugene Saturday Market this weekend, you might encounter a group of protestors. Vendors are worried the protest could hinder their sales at the market.
KEZI 9 News has learned the group 50501 will be taking over the area of Eighth Avenue and Oak Street to protest the actions of the Trump administration on April 19. Not everyone is in favor of the protest though, regardless of their political stance on federal cuts or deportation. Some said the market is critical to their ability to make a living, and fear the protest may keep shoppers away. Managers like Renee Thompson wanted to make it clear that the protest is not connected to the actual market.
“We’ve been organizing our own separate event for Earth Day,” Thompson said. “One of the things about the park blocks is that it is a public space, so folks do have protected rights and protected spaces like park blocks.”…
