$3.6 million bridges project starting Monday in Erie Co.

( WJET/WFXP )– Work to tear down and replace three bridges described as being in poor condition in McKean Township is set to start this coming Monday, with the expectation of being done in early winter.

PennDOT announced this week that they’ll be tearing down those three concrete bridges starting April 21, weather permitting, along Old Route 99 while also making some minor improvements to the road around them.

The bridges will be taken out one at a time, requiring a detour using expected to last about six months using Route 99, Old Route 99, and Golden Road. PennDOT said drivers should also be ready for traffic pattern shifts and lane restrictions.

The three bridges are owned and maintained by McKean Township and were built in 1913, with another built in 1941, and are used by about 600 to 725 vehicles a day, on average.

Work on the project is being done by an Erie-based company and will cost about $3,609,457 using federal, state, and local funds; some of which is from PennDOT and their plan to incentivise counties to create funding for local bridge projects…
