MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Good Friday has extra meaning — for a group of 18 men and women graduating Mobile County’s Drug Court. It comes after being in the program for more than 12 months, undergoing random drug testing, being clean for 180 consecutive days (most of them have been clean for over a year), completing a minimum of 15 substance abuse counseling groups, meeting with a case manager once a month, and coming before Judge Jennifer Wright more than 20 times.
Judge Wright says it’s night and day to see how far they’ve come in reclaiming their lives.
“It’s emotional — I think for everyone on the team because we see them coming in one way. Many of them — the first time I saw them — they came in in handcuffs and a jumpsuit from the metro jail. And they look completely and totally different today. So, it’s really a beautiful transformation in their lives and not only their lives — but it affects families and their children — and the people they’re around as well,” said Judge Wright…
