Ohio Department of Aging Launches Nutrition Program for Seniors with Vouchers for Fresh, Local Produce

The Ohio Department of Aging has launched the 2025 Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program to foster healthier communities and support local growers. The initiative aims to offer older residents of Ohio a helping hand in accessing nutritious food options. The program tries to bolster seniors’ health and the pocketbooks of Ohio farmers. “The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program is a fantastic way for older Ohioans to get fresh produce from their communities while also helping Ohio farmers find new customers,” ODA Director Ursel J. McElroy said in a news release. These vouchers can be used across participating markets for various goods, including fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

Eligibility for the program requires applicants to be Ohio residents, 60 years of age or older, and earning less than 185% of the federal poverty level. This measure is expected to ensure that those in need are given the means to improve their diets and, consequently, their overall well-being.
