Three months later: Fundraiser for slain teen, hearing for teen suspects

MERIDIAN, Idaho (CBS2) — This weekend marks three months since the tragic murder of 19-year-old Tiger Canoy, who was shot during a robbery. On January 19, Canoy and his girlfriend were attacked by three teenage robbers who stole their phones and wallets. After the initial confrontation, Canoy and his girlfriend pursued the robbers, leading to a second encounter where one of the robbers shot Canoy in the head. He succumbed to his injuries the following day in the hospital, while his girlfriend survived.

The three teenagers accused with first degree murder appear in court for their preliminary hearing on April 29. Daniel Alaniz Pineda, 19, who police say fired the fatal shot, has been charged as an adult from the outset. The charges against 15-year-old Miguel Angel Martinez and 17-year-old Jordan Castillo, were upgraded to adult charges following Canoy’s death.

The community is invited to show support for Canoy’s family and girlfriend at the “Justice for Tiger Canoy” event, taking place April 19, at the Storey Park in Meridian from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The organizer hopes to raise money to help cover the resulting costs through donations and raffle ticket sales, offering prizes such as art…
