CLEVELAND (WJW) — A man alleged to have struck and killed a “beloved local broadcast journalist” while driving recklessly was indicted Wednesday by a Cuyahoga County grand jury.
Zachary M. Saliba, 29, of Lakewood, now faces a third-degree felony charge of aggravated vehicular homicide in the Dec. 11 death of 58-year-old Bill Safos.
Wrong-way crash on I-71 caught on video overnight
It happened at the intersection of Hilliard Road and Madison Avenue, as Safos was crossing the intersection on foot, according to authorities.
Evidence shows Saliba was “committing aggressive traffic offenses” just before striking Safos, reads a previous news release.
Safos died at the scene, according to that release. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled his death an accident, caused by blunt force injuries.
