Colin Farrell Seen After Son’s Care News

Additional Coverage:

Colin Farrell, the Hollywood actor known for his role in “The Penguin,” was recently seen in Los Feliz, California, getting coffee. The sighting comes after the actor publicly revealed the difficult decision to place his 21-year-old son, James, in a long-term care facility.

Dressed casually in a V-neck t-shirt, plaid trousers, and Adidas trainers, Farrell picked up three coffees from a local café. The 48-year-old actor kept a low profile while waiting for his order.

Farrell recently opened up about placing his son, who has Angelman syndrome, in long-term care. He expressed his desire to ensure James receives the best possible care while he and James’s mother, Kim Bordenave, are still able to advocate for him. The actor emphasized the importance of establishing a strong support system and sense of community for his son.

Angelman syndrome is a rare genetic disorder affecting the nervous system. It causes developmental delays and disabilities, including difficulties with speech and movement, as well as seizures. While individuals with Angelman syndrome typically have a normal lifespan, they require continuous care.

Farrell voiced his concerns about what would happen to James if he and Bordenave were no longer able to care for him. He expressed his hope that placing James in a facility now will ensure his long-term well-being and happiness. Farrell also shared the story of James’s initial misdiagnosis with cerebral palsy and the eventual diagnosis of Angelman syndrome when James was two and a half.

Last year, Farrell founded the Colin Farrell Foundation to support adults with intellectual disabilities. He has spoken about the challenges of finding appropriate support systems for young adults with disabilities as they age out of programs designed for younger people.

He also shared some of the joys and milestones in James’s life, including learning to walk at age four and speaking his first words at age six or seven. In 2021, Farrell and Bordenave filed for conservatorship of James to ensure they could continue to make decisions about his care and well-being.
