Suspect in Buc-ee’s shooting was wanted out of Nashville; abandoned car in metro Atlanta: GBI

CALHOUN, Ga. — The man accused of shooting at officers at a north Georgia Buc-ee’s, carjacking a customer and leading deputies on a chase before fatally shooting himself is now being connected to several other crimes — including a Nashville homicide earlier this month and forcing an Atlanta woman at gunpoint to drive him to Tennessee.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says Robert Smith, 35, of Cookeville, Tennessee, died by suicide Thursday following the ordeal in Calhoun, Georgia, about an hour south of the Tennessee border. But, according to the GBI, Smith’s alleged crimes began earlier this month.

According to the GBI and the Nashville Police Department, Smith was initially wanted on eight counts of aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated stalking, domestic assault, harassment and vandalism…
