A New Trader Joe’s Is Coming to Tracy, California

Trader Joe’s is officially moving into Tracy, California. The new store will open at 2530 Naglee Road, inside the West Valley Mall complex, and right next to Best Buy. The site was previously home to Cost Plus World Market, which closed in 2023. The building is now undergoing a renovation, with construction expected to be completed in 2025. Once open, it will be the city’s first Trader Joe’s location.

The new store sits just north of Interstate 205, making it easily accessible for shoppers from across Tracy and nearby areas. It will join a strong lineup of national retailers, including Target, Macy’s, Hobby Lobby, and Cinemark, all part of the larger West Valley Mall property.

This Lot Looked Very Different Just a Few Decades Ago

Before commercial development reached this part of Tracy, the site was farmland. In a 1993 aerial image, the area was entirely open, with Interstate 205 already in place but surrounded by agricultural land. By 2002, the mall had begun to take shape. That changed in the early 2000s. The structure, which is now being renovated for Trader Joe’s, was added during a period of rapid growth for the shopping center. West Valley Mall had opened a few years earlier in 1995, and surrounding commercial projects quickly followed.

A New Tenant for a Familiar Space

The building Trader Joe’s will occupy was home to World Market Outlet until its closure in 2023. With that brand’s exit, the city saw an opportunity to attract a grocer long requested by residents. Trader Joe’s quietly confirmed the new location on its website in early 2025. City officials welcomed the news, calling it a sign of retail momentum in Tracy…
