Street Scene considers proposed House Bill 351 (HB 351) filed by Rep. Jenna Persons-Mulicka and companion Senate Bill 636 (SB 636) filed by Sen. Johnathan Martin as unnecessarily redundant to existing law.
This proposed law, if passed, to limit drivers impeding the flow of traffic in the left lane by continuous travel in the left lane is already prohibited by Florida Statue 316.081 Driving on the right side of roadway: exceptions.
Something this legislative session could do is provide additional funding to the Florida Highway Patrol for more State Troopers patrolling our highways to enforce existing law. Moreover increase the pay of these worthy and critically important law enforcement officers. Florida State Troopers are known to have suffered line-of-duty deaths and permanent debilitating injuries.
Eyesore on North Monroe
Q . Jane writes: this may not be a traffic issue, but we are hoping you can tell us what is going on near the intersection of North Monroe and Tharpe Street. Behind the used car dealer, which is on the southeast corner, there are massive amounts of dirt which have not been moved for months and months. I believe this is the former site of Western Sizzlin restaurant. Is something going to be built here, did a contract fall through and work halted, etc.? This is a huge eyesore. Thank you for any information…
