A ban on citizen police review boards that provide oversight of local law enforcement is heading to Gov. Kim Reynolds to be signed into law.
With Reynolds’ signature, at least five cities — Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Ames, Coralville and Dubuque — would have to dismantle their citizen police review boards under Senate File 311 after the Iowa House passed the bill April 17.
Officials with University Heights, an eastern Iowa city with a population of about 1,200, believe the bill does not apply to its citizen review board.
