El Paso Braces for Lengthy Roadwork: Montana Ave Widening and Multiple Projects Underway

El Paso residents can expect a bevy of road closures and construction activities throughout the city, including some substantial projects spanning months. The Montana Avenue Widening Project, underway since early April, will continue to disrupt traffic until December 2025, according to TxDOT. This project has necessitated several lane reductions along Montana Avenue and Joe Battle Boulevard, including the closure of northbound and southbound through lanes at their intersection.

Adding to the commuters’ woes, the Purple Heart 375 Widening Project has scheduled alternate lane closures between Montana Avenue and Iron Medics Drive, with crews onsite from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily until April 30, meanwhile, the same highway will also see shoulder closures extending up to Spur 601 as part of an ongoing effort to widen the main lanes and construct new frontage roads. Over on Americas Avenue, expect alternating turnarounds closures at various intersections due to the Loop 375 Widening Project, which will last from April 21 to April 25.

Further complicating travel plans, the Horizon/Darrington Reconstruction Project, which kicked off in February and is not expected to wrap until May 2025, will close the eastbound lanes of Horizon Boulevard between Horizon Crossing to Breaux Street. Crews are diligently working on the road’s final subgrade and pavement operations, in addition to excavating ponding areas. Additionally, Darrington Road will see the southbound lanes adjusted to facilitate two-way traffic, offering only a slight reprieve to the already burdened commuters…
