Local highways to undergo safety improvements

(Willmar MN-) The Minnesota Department of Transportation announces that District 8 in southwest Minnesota, has been awarded $2,686,000 from the Highway Safety Improvement Program for three safety improvement projects within the district. HSIP is a federal-aid funding program designed to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries on public roads. The object of the program is to identify, implement and evaluate cost effective construction safety projects.

In District 8, the three projects which will receive HSIP funding include:

Highway 23 Marshall – a J-turn will be installed at Highway 23 and Tiger Drive in Marshall. J-turns are a driving movement proven to reduce serious and fatal crashes caused by “T-bone” crashes at intersections.
