Meridian event raises funds, awareness for Tiger Canoy’s family after tragic shooting

MERIDIAN, Idaho (CBS2) — Members of the community marked three months since the murder of 19-year-old Tiger Canoy, Tiger was shot during a robbery. On January 19, Canoy and his girlfriend were attacked by three teenage robbers who stole their phones and wallets. After the initial confrontation, Canoy and his girlfriend pursued the robbers, leading to a second encounter where one of the robbers shot Canoy in the head. He succumbed to his injuries the following day in the hospital, while his girlfriend survived.

The three teenagers accused with first degree murder appear in court for their preliminary hearing on April 29. Daniel Alaniz Pineda, 19, who police say fired the fatal shot, has been charged as an adult from the outset. The charges against 15-year-old Miguel Angel Martinez and 17-year-old Jordan Castillo, were upgraded to adult charges following Canoy’s death.

On Saturday, the community showed support for Canoy’s family and girlfriend at the “Justice for Tiger Canoy” event at the Storey Park in Meridian. The organizer hoped the event would raise money to help cover the resulting costs following his death…
