Eugene exempts $9M in taxes to boost six-story Market District housing project

Big changes are coming to Eugene’s Market District, where a new six-story development could soon be built with the help of a multi-million-dollar tax exemption.

Eugene leaders voted unanimously April 16 to approve a 10-year tax break worth more than $9 million to help the new “Station House” at 5th Avenue and Oak Street in a deal that supporters say will pay off in long-term tax revenue.

Obie Companies, which developed the nearby 5th Street Public Market, Gordon Lofts and Inn at the 5th Street Market, proposes spending $68 million on the Station House complex, which would move in and replace the former Buffalo Exchange building and an adjacent parking lot…
