Man behaving suspiciously tased by police in Fruitland Park

A Fruitland Park man was arrested after wrestling with officers to the point of being tased in the back when questioned about his suspicious behavior.

An officer was headed east on West Berkman Street near the intersection with College Avenue when he spotted a lone figure dressed in all black walking in the roadway at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. As he passed the subject, later identified as 26-year-old Jeremiah Christopher Blair, he saw his sweatshirt hood up and a black headwrap covering his face.

The officer watched Blair in his rearview mirror, seeing him briefly walk in the center of the road before crossing over to the eastbound lanes. Additionally, the officer was familiar with the residents who lived in the houses on that section of the block, none of which matched Blair’s physical attributes. As the officer turned his patrol vehicle around, Blair appeared to remove his covering, the report said.

The report noted there was a sidewalk on the westbound side of the roadway that was clear and free of road blockings. Therefore, Blair committed the pedestrian violation of walking in the roadway when sidewalks were available and traveling on the opposite side of the roadway from oncoming traffic.
