An Ocklawaha man was arrested for grand theft after allegedly stealing a $1,548 weight set from a cart at a local Winn-Dixie.
A deputy responded to Winn-Dixie, located at 15912 E. Hwy. 40, Silver Springs, regarding grand theft, later found to involve 58-year-old Richard Gerard Brown, on Thursday afternoon, according to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon arrival, the deputy met with a female employee of the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Services. She advised that while doing her paperwork, she left her pushcart outside her vehicle, which had a stainless steel 30-pound Troemner weight set with a black case worth $1,548. Brown stole the weight set out of the cart during this time, the report said.
The deputy and the employee met with the store manager who pulled up security footage. It showed that at about 12:55 p.m., a brown 1999-2002 Chevrolet pickup with a long bed pulled through the parking lot twice. It then went up to the employee’s vehicle, and Brown got out of the driver’s seat, the report said…
