Pointe Coupee deputies warn drivers to be alert of deer on the highway

POINTE COUPEE PARISH, La. (WAFB) – The Pointe Coupee Parish Sheriff’s Office is warning drivers to be aware of some wildlife they may encounter during their daily travel.

Deputies say deer on the move have already resulted in two accidents on Friday, Apr. 18. Officials sent out a message urging anyone traveling through the Morganza Spillway on Highway 1 to be aware of deer running around and across the highway.

Officials say the reason for this is that the river water is coming over the Potato Levee and filling up the for-bay in Morganza by the control structure. This is, in turn, causing deer and other wildlife to run everywhere…
