Two massive sinkholes in different parts of St. Louis City

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The Earth opened up Friday night, leaving a gaping sinkhole at 17th Street by Cass. And the fix will not be quick.

Metropolitan Sewer District tells KMOX this was a collapse of a more than 100-year old brick sewer. Bess McCoy is a Project Clear spokesperson. “We tried to complete the investigation but unfortunately with the amount of debris in there, we couldn’t get the full extent of the damage, but we’re in the process right now of getting a contractor on board so that they can complete the investigation and start repairs as early as quickly as possible.”

McCoy says with it being a holiday weekend and the forecast, it could be several days before repairs are made. A special contractor, who deals with old infrastructure will make the repair…
