Reality Star Defends Son After Kennedy’s Autism Remarks

Additional Coverage:

Reality TV star Brittany Cartwright, of Vanderpump Rules fame, recently spoke out against comments made by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. regarding autism.

Kennedy, who recently announced a plan to investigate environmental factors potentially linked to rising autism diagnoses, made disparaging remarks, claiming individuals with autism may struggle to hold jobs, maintain relationships, or live independently, and that the condition “destroys families.” Cartwright, whose son Cruz was recently diagnosed with autism, took issue with Kennedy’s generalizations.

“He listed a bunch of things that kids with autism or people on the spectrum in general do not do,” she stated on her podcast, When Reality Hits. “And that really upset me because the autism spectrum is so broad.”

Cartwright, who also appeared on Vanderpump Rules: Jax & Brittany Take Kentucky and The Valley, explained that with the release of her new show, she felt it was important to address her son’s diagnosis publicly. She aims to be a positive advocate for other families navigating similar challenges. Cartwright detailed the support system she has in place for Cruz, including occupational and speech therapy, and a therapeutic companion who accompanies him to class.

The reality star expressed her unconditional love for her son, emphasizing that she “wouldn’t change a thing about him.” She shared heartwarming anecdotes, including a moment when three-year-old Cruz spoke a full sentence.

While acknowledging the challenges, Cartwright focuses on celebrating Cruz’s progress and advocating for understanding and acceptance of individuals with autism. She also addressed online speculation and unsolicited advice, stating, “There’s so many people [who] think they’re doctors in the comment[s] section… I’m like: ‘No, you don’t.

Because even I don’t know.’ We’re learning as we go.”

Cartwright remains determined to be her son’s voice and champion as they navigate his autism journey together.
