Iowa-Illinois Border Storm Alert: Severe Thunderstorms and Tornado Risk South of I-80 From 5 to 10 PM Sunday

Quad Cities, IA/IL – Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop along the Iowa-Illinois border Sunday evening, with isolated tornadoes possible south of Interstate 80 between 5 and 10 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities, a line of storms will move in from the southwest by late afternoon, driven by a low-pressure system. Southern areas such as Burlington, Macomb, and Galesburg face the highest risk, with a 10–20% chance for storms to turn severe. Damaging winds up to 60 mph and hail larger than quarters are the main threats, with a slight risk (Level 2 of 5) stretching across far southeast Iowa into west-central Illinois.

The Quad Cities metro area sits on the edge of the threat zone but could still see lightning, heavy downpours, and brief gusts. Storms should weaken overnight, with rain tapering off Monday morning before another round arrives Tuesday…
