After stalling out over parts of North and West Texas over the past two days, a springtime cold front is set to move though South Texas early Sunday morning.
The incoming cold front will do two things. First, a line of thunderstorms is expected to develop along the front as it moves through South Texas. Storms are expected to be brief, but they could be intense. Second, the front will bring slightly cooler air into the region, sending temps back to near average for mid- to late April.
Stormy Easter morning
The cold front is expected to move though the San Antonio area between 5 and 8 a.m. Sunday morning. That’s also the most likely time that we’ll encounter thunderstorms in and around the Alamo City. A few storms could be strong, capable of gusty wind speeds up to 50 mph, along with small dime-sized hail.
Isolated larger hail up to the size of quarters is not out of the question, but the vast majority of hail will stay much smaller.
After the front moves east of San Antonio, a few lingering showers and weaker thunderstorms will be possible between 8 and 10 a.m. If you’re heading out early, it’ll be a good idea to bring an umbrella just in case. Temperatures will be nice and cool throughout the morning as well, hovering in the 60s through around noon.
Drier weather by midday
The good news is that drier conditions will prevail by late morning and early afternoon. San Antonio rain chances will drop to less than 20% after 11 a.m, and we’ll even start to experience some sunshine by early to mid-afternoon…
